OpenAI To Launch a LinkedIn Competitor

OpenAI is building an AI jobs platform designed to match candidates with employers … a move that could directly challenge Microsoft’s LinkedIn. Alongside it, the company will expand OpenAI Academy with a certification program offering levels of AI fluency, from basic workplace skills to advanced prompt engineering.

Unlike traditional platforms, OpenAI says the service will also help local businesses and governments find AI talent, not just big corporations. Certificates, powered by ChatGPT’s interactive “Study Mode,” can be adopted by companies like Walmart for workforce training. OpenAI aims to certify 10 million Americans by 2030.

The platform is expected by mid-2026, arriving as AI both creates opportunities and eliminates jobs. Research shows roles requiring AI skills already pay more on average and OpenAI wants to make sure more people are equipped to seize them.

Anthropic Pays $1.5B in Landmark Copyright Settlement (Source)

Anthropic has agreed to a $1.5 billion settlement with authors, one of the largest payouts yet in the AI era. The company was accused of training its Claude AI models on pirated books from “shadow libraries.” As part of the deal, Anthropic will pay about $3,000 per book for 500,000 works and destroy the disputed data.

The case was set for trial in December, where damages could have reached $1 trillion — a potential business-ending risk. By settling, Anthropic avoids that danger while sending a clear signal: AI firms will need to legitimately license training data going forward.

Legal experts say this “Napster-to-iTunes moment” could push the industry toward structured data licensing, much like how the music industry adapted to digital distribution. For big players like OpenAI, Meta, and Google, this may mean negotiating billion-dollar data deals. For smaller AI firms, the financial bar could be much harder to meet.
