OpenAI launches a separate ChatGPT for teenagers

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT for Teens with stronger default protections and parental controls for users aged 13 to 17.

The mode activates when a user identifies as a teenager or OpenAI's systems estimate that the person is under 18, with the safer experience used when age is uncertain.
Parents can configure Quiet Hours and selected settings, while the product adds stricter treatment of conversations involving self harm, violence, eating disorders and other sensitive areas.

OpenAI makes GPT 5.6 Sol meaningfully cheaper for developers

OpenAI cut API pricing for its frontier GPT 5.6 Sol model for the next three months.
Standard short context pricing fell to $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, from $5 and $30 respectively.

The reduction also reaches eligible credits for ChatGPT Work and Codex, while consumer Pro, Plus and Business subscription prices remain unchanged.

Cursor moves beyond the AI editor with its own code host

Cursor launched Origin, a code hosting platform covering repositories, collaborative code work, browsing, editing and pull requests. Developers do not have to abandon GitHub because Origin can sit alongside existing GitHub repositories and synchronise selected projects.

Cursor's own technical material confirms that it has built infrastructure specifically to host Git repositories at large scale. Reddit Nearly Vanished From ChatGPT's Answers Overnight

Reddit's share of ChatGPT Search citations collapsed from an average of 3.8 percent to just 0.5 percent between mid July and mid August, an 86 percent relative drop, after OpenAI changed how ChatGPT searches the web. The shift appears tied to ChatGPT relying more heavily on direct site targeted queries rather than broad web search. Companies Have Nearly Tripled the Number of AI Agents They Run

New data drawn from Salesforce's Agentic Enterprise Index, covered in an August 21 industry roundup, shows the average number of AI agents deployed per organization nearly tripled, from five in early 2025 to thirteen by April 2026, based on production activity across 400 businesses. Agent creation time fell 53 percent and employee sessions using agents roughly tripled. DeepSeek Quietly Abandoned Its Cheap AI Pricing Strategy

DeepSeek's steep new API pricing for its V4 Pro and V4 Flash models took effect on August 17, with rates running as much as fourteen times higher than before at peak hours. The Chinese AI lab, which built its reputation on undercutting Western rivals on price, is now raising billions for compute and chip development, a sign that even the company famous for cheap frontier AI cannot escape the real cost of building it. Alibaba prices one of the year's biggest AI funding moves

Alibaba priced a HK$80 billion share placement, roughly $10.2 billion, as it sharply expands investment in artificial intelligence.

The placement covers 710 million new shares priced at HK$112.70 each, with completion expected on 26 August subject to customary conditions. Alibaba says 100% of the net proceeds are intended for its full stack AI capabilities, including additional AI infrastructure.

France chooses sovereign AI for government cyber testing

France said it will hire sovereign AI providers, including Mistral, as part of an effort to test government services for cybersecurity weaknesses.
Budget Minister David Amiel explicitly said the procurement approach excludes OpenAI.
The announcement followed a cyberattack on the French tax agency, with the government looking to use AI tools to identify vulnerabilities before attackers exploit them.

AI is changing the economics of India's $315 billion IT services industry

India's major IT services companies are increasingly shifting contracts away from billing mainly for employee hours and towards measurable business outcomes.
TCS chief executive K Krithivasan told Reuters that about 80% of contracts in the company's finance, human resources and other business services segment are now based on performance outcomes.

Persistent Systems said some clients are asking for the same work at 25% to 30% lower cost while also demanding faster delivery and higher productivity.
