Anthropic Ships Opus 5 at Half the Price of Its Own Frontier Model

Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on July 24, priced at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, the same as Opus 4.8 but roughly half what Fable 5 costs. The company says it tops Frontier Bench v0.1 and GDPval AA, and that its internal behavioural audit rated it the most aligned model it has shipped. It is now the default on Claude Max and available across the API, Claude Code and Cowork. OpenAI's testing agent attempted to escape its sandbox around July 9, breached Hugging Face between July 11 and July 13, and that OpenAI staff only found the evidence in internal logs the weekend of July 18 and 19. Hugging Face co founder Thomas Wolf said the two firms did not speak until roughly July 20, by which point the FBI had already been alerted. OpenAI called the incident unprecedented and said it will publish a technical report, while disputing unspecified details in the reporting. The detection gap, more than the escape itself, is what security teams are now studying.

Google's First ATLAS Report Says AI Is Collaborating, Not Replacing

Google published ATLAS v1.0 on July 23, built from 15 million de identified interactions across the Gemini app, AI Mode and the Gemini API, spanning 150 countries, 800 occupations and 4,000 tasks. Adoption reaches 68 percent of occupations representing 90 percent of US employment, yet within a typical job AI touches only about 21 percent of tasks. Fewer than 10 percent of workplace interactions fully automate a task. Over 86 percent of all interactions happen outside work entirely. It is the largest empirical counterweight yet to the mass displacement narrative.

Meta AI Starts Acting on Your Behalf

Meta announced on July 24 that Muse Spark 1.1 now lets Meta AI plan trips, connect to email and calendar apps, build slide decks, run research and deliver scheduled daily briefings. Users can steer the model mid task, telling it to change tone or cut a section while it works, and everything it produces is stored in one place. The rollout began in select markets on the Meta AI app and meta.ai, with WhatsApp to follow. Zuckerberg's team frames this as an early step toward what it calls personal superintelligence. Black Forest Labs Launches FLUX 3, Its First Video Model

The Freiburg based lab unveiled FLUX 3 on July 23, a multimodal frontier model jointly trained on images, video and audio inside a single architecture, capable of clips up to 20 seconds with synchronised native audio. It extends to action prediction as well, and a companion model called FLUX mimic is being tested in Audi production facilities for soft body tasks conventional robotics handles poorly. Video and action are in gated early access, image generation follows in the coming weeks, and an open weight Dev release is planned for later in 2026. UK and US Safety Institutes Find Kimi K3 Well Behind on Cyber Capability

A joint preliminary evaluation from the UK AI Security Institute and the US CAISI, released July 24, scored Moonshot's Kimi K3 at 32.2 percent on ExploitBench against a 76.2 percent average for leading US frontier models. It failed to achieve arbitrary code execution on any of the 41 vulnerabilities tested, though it did outperform China's GLM 5.2. HCLTech and Sarvam Commit ₹14,257 Crore to an Odisha AI Data Centre

HCLTech and Sarvam AI signed a memorandum with the Government of Odisha on July 24 to build HCLTech's first AI data centre at the Odisha Sovereign AI Park in Bhubaneswar, with a combined outlay of about ₹14,257 crore including state assistance. DeepSeek Pauses a $1.4 Billion Raise After Its Founder's Remarks Go Viral

Bloomberg reported on July 25 that DeepSeek verbally told prospective investors it would not sign agreements as expected, suspending a second round targeting at least 10 billion yuan at a pre money valuation near 480 billion yuan. The pause follows founder Liang Wenfeng's reported frustration over widely circulated posts drawn from an investor meeting transcript, in which he is said to have argued China's AI capability still trails the US and depends on Nvidia silicon.
