Anthropic Ships Claude Opus 4.8

Just 41 days after releasing Opus 4.7, Anthropic launched Opus 4.8, keeping the same pricing while delivering a model that early testers describe as more careful with uncertain data and far less likely to make unsupported claims. The accompanying Dynamic Workflows feature, now in research preview, allows Claude Code to split a complex task across hundreds of parallel subagents, making repository-scale migrations involving hundreds of thousands of lines of code practical for the first time. A fast mode running at 2.5 times the standard speed is also now three times cheaper than before. (TechCrunch)

A Perfect Prompting Takes Longer Context Which Take Time: Now Speak Your Prompt With Wispr Flow: (Try FREE!)

ChatGPT gives you generic answers because you give it generic prompts.

You know the fix: longer prompts, more context, clearer constraints. But typing all that takes five minutes per prompt, so you shortcut it. Every time.

Wispr Flow lets you speak your prompts instead of typing them. Talk through your thinking naturally — include context, constraints, examples — and get clean text ready to paste. No filler words. No cleanup.

Works inside ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, and every other AI tool. System-level, so there's nothing to install per app. Tap and talk.

Millions of users worldwide. Teams at OpenAI, Vercel, and Clay use Flow daily. Free on Mac, Windows, and iPhone.

Anthropic Closes a $65 Billion Round and Is Now Valued at Nearly $1 Trillion

Anthropic has closed a Series H round at a post-money valuation of $965 billion, making it one of the most valuable private companies ever. The raise, reported on May 28, comes as Anthropic's Claude platform is drawing millions of paying users, and the company is widely expected to file for an IPO before the end of 2026. For the broader AI industry, the figure signals that investor confidence in frontier AI labs has not cooled — it has accelerated. Enterprise adoption, developer tooling, and the company's safety-first positioning appear to be working together as a commercial story. (TechCrunch)

An OpenAI Model Just Solved an 80-Year-Old Math Problem

On May 20, OpenAI announced that an internal general-purpose reasoning model had autonomously disproved the Erdős unit distance conjecture, a geometry problem that had stood open since 1946.

The model found an entirely new family of constructions using algebraic number theory, and the proof was subsequently reviewed and confirmed by external mathematicians including Fields Medalists and leading combinatorists. This is widely described as the first time an AI has independently solved a prominent open problem central to a recognized subfield of mathematics a different and more rigorous milestone than anything OpenAI had claimed before. Pope Leo XIV Issues a Sweeping 42,000-Word Document on AI and Human Dignity

On May 25, Pope Leo XIV published his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, framing artificial intelligence as the defining industrial revolution of the current era and calling on governments and corporations to subject it to stronger ethical and political oversight.

The 235-page document warns that AI risks widening inequality, weakening democracy, and eroding what it means to be human. In an unusual and deliberate choice, the pope presented the encyclical himself alongside Anthropic co-founder Christopher Olah, signaling the Vatican's view of which AI lab it considers a credible safety partner. The document was signed on May 15 - exactly 135 years after Pope Leo XIII signed Rerum Novarum on workers' rights during the first Industrial Revolution. (TIME)

Users Are Defecting to DuckDuckGo Because Google's AI Search Feels Forced

In the six days following Google's I/O announcements, DuckDuckGo reported that US app installs rose an average of 18 percent week over week, peaking at 30.5 percent on May 25. On iOS alone the growth averaged 33 percent, with a single-day high of nearly 70 percent. Traffic to DuckDuckGo's AI-free search page grew 22 percent week over week. Users described the reaction as less anti-AI and more about choice — Google is making AI the default layer with no easy opt-out, and a meaningful share of its user base is not ready for that. The episode is an early, real-world signal about consumer tolerance for AI-mediated experiences they did not ask for. (TechCrunch)

ChatGPT Can Read Your Bank Account (But Only With Your Permission)

OpenAI launched a personal finance feature in ChatGPT for Pro subscribers in the US, allowing users to securely link accounts from over 12,000 financial institutions through Plaid, including Chase, Fidelity, Schwab, Robinhood, and Capital One. Once connected, ChatGPT generates a spending dashboard and answers natural-language questions about a user's actual financial situation, with the default model being GPT-5.5 Thinking.

The feature is read-only it cannot see full account numbers or make changes and rolls out gradually before expanding to Plus subscribers. OpenAI positioned the tool as the beginning of a broader plan to offer in-app financial actions such as tax estimation and credit card applications. (TechCrunch)

Meta Puts Subscriptions on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp With AI Plans Ahead

On May 27, Meta announced a global rollout of paid subscription tiers for its three flagship apps: Instagram Plus at $3.99 per month, Facebook Plus at $3.99, and WhatsApp Plus at $2.99. The plans unlock features including profile customization and story analytics.

More significant for the AI industry is what Meta signaled is coming: a separate AI subscriber tier is in development, suggesting the company intends to monetize its Meta AI platform through a standalone subscription model rather than embedding it only in existing plans. The move follows Meta's push to tie advertising, AI, and consumer subscriptions into a unified revenue strategy across its ecosystem. (TechCrunch)
