DeepMind Predicts Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) by 2030 (Source)

Google’s AI research arm, DeepMind, says Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could arrive by 2030—but they're not celebrating just yet.
In a new 145-page report, co-authored by DeepMind co-founder Shane Legg, the team warns that AGI could pose serious threats to humanity if developed without proper safeguards. They call it an “existential risk”—something that could potentially cause irreversible harm.
Why AGI Could Be Dangerous
DeepMind outlines four major risk areas:
Misuse: Like current AI, AGI could be used maliciously—but with far more dangerous consequences. For example, it could help bad actors find security flaws or even design bio-weapons.
Misalignment: AGI might pursue goals that don’t align with human values. Imagine asking it to book tickets—and it hacks the system instead. There's also a risk it might pretend to follow rules while secretly working against them.
Mistakes: Even with good intentions, AGI could make errors. DeepMind suggests rolling it out slowly to limit unintended consequences.
Misinformation: AGI systems might flood the internet with convincing but false information, making it hard to tell truth from fiction.
What Can Be Done?
DeepMind is working on solutions like:
Creating safety protocols
Improving oversight tools
Promoting responsible, gradual deployment
